Sujin Choi is a collaborative pianist, opera coach, and music staff member specializing in opera and vocal repertoire. A former Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist at LA Opera, she has worked extensively as an opera coach and collaborative artist, partnering with conductors, singers, and directors in the preparation and performance of operatic productions.
During her time at LA Opera, Choi served on the music staff for numerous productions and collaborated closely with Music Director James Conlon. Her recent engagements include performing fortepiano in Barrie Kosky’s production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, reflecting her interest in both the collaborative and historical performance aspects of opera.
Previously, Choi was a participant in the prestigious Merola Opera Program, where she worked as an opera coach and harpsichordist. Her additional experience includes engagements with the Aspen Music Festival and School and the Music Academy of the West. She has contributed to productions including Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Puccini’s La Bohème, Cavalli’s La Calisto, Martin y Soler’s L’arbore di Diana, and Jack Perla’s An American Dream.
As a collaborative artist, Choi has performed at leading venues in the United States, South Korea, and Austria, including the War Memorial Opera House, Jordan Hall, Seoul Arts Center, Daegu Opera House, Kumho Art Hall, and the Mozarthaus Vienna.
Choi holds degrees in Piano Performance and Collaborative Piano from Yonsei University and the New England Conservatory.
